FFA Cup Round 4

Last night saw the CCU 1st grade team take on NPL3 side Sydney University in Round 4 of the FFA Cup. This game was a good test for the team, as Captain Daniel McFarlane was rested for the night after he picked up a minor injury over the week. Vice Captain Geordie Howe stepped up and led from the back, helping the team put on a dominant performance and come away with a 4-0 win. Technical Director Dean Heffernan stood in as acting head coach for the night, as Stu Davis was away.

It didn't take long for CCU to find their feet on the field, with first goal coming early in the first half of the game. Swadling gained possession and put a ball through to striker Woodbine, who went one on one with the keeper and netted the ball with ease, 1-0. Swadling himself would be the next player to hit the back of the net in the 36th minute, taking the score to 2-0 at halftime. Central Coast United weren't finished for the night, proceeding to net another 2 goals in the second half. Arbelo scored the third goal, knocking in a corner from Swadling. Whilst the fourth and final goal started at the back with Nathan Blunden, before being played by Jordon Bennett up the wing and into space, and saw Josh Swadling finish it with a curling ball into the top corner. His second goal for the game, and the goal of the night.

Of the performance, Heffernan said, "the boys went out there and did everything we asked of them and more. They played well as a team and that's reflected in the result. We're aiming to carry this performance into the weekend's game against Western Condors".

The only downfall of the night was a red card late in the game to striker Adam Woodbine, which will see him miss this weekend's action. Details about Round 5 of the FFA Cup and who the boys will face next will be confirmed over the following week.
